First there was the required Emergency Paid Sick Leave through the Families First Recovery Act in 2020, which then became voluntary in 2021 with two deadline extensions. Then Cal/OSHA enacted the Emergency Temporary Standard, which added another mandate for employers. Now, the California Legislature and Governor have just enacted a new required Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Law (SB 95) for employers with more than 25 employees that is retroactive to January 1, 2021.
